Jefferson Parish adopted...
A resolution proclaiming the month of October to be
“Spay
and Neuter Month”
as part of the “Spay Now” initiative in Jefferson
Parish, (Parishwide)
WHEREAS, cats and dogs provide
companionship to and share the homes of over 63,000,000 families in the
United States; and
WHEREAS, two unaltered cats and all
their descendants can number 420,000 in seven years and two unaltered
dogs and all their descendants can number 67,000 in six years; and
WHEREAS, humane societies and animal
shelters have to euthanize approximately five (5) million cats and dogs
each year, although many of them are healthy and adoptable, simply
because there are not enough good homes; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson Parish Animal
Shelter has to euthanize approximately ______________ thousand cats and
dogs each year, although many of them are healthy and adoptable, simply
because there are not enough good home; and
WHEREAS, the problem of companion
animal overpopulation costs the taxpayers of this country over a billion
dollars annually through animal control programs aimed at coping with
the millions of homeless cats and dogs; and
WHEREAS, spaying and neutering cats
and dogs has been shown to drastically reduce cat and dog
overpopulation; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Southern Animal Foundation and the
Friends of the Jefferson Animal Shelter have low cost spay and neuter
programs; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson Parish Council
encourages local veterinarians to participate in the “Spay Now”
initiative in the month of October by reducing the cost of spays and
neuters in their clinics.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Jefferson Parish
Council of Jefferson Parish, acting as governing authority of said
Parish:
SECTION 1. That
the month of October is hereby proclaimed “Spay and Neuter Month” as
part of the “Spay Now” initiative in Jefferson Parish.
SECTION 2. Local veterinarians are encouraged
to participate in the “Spay Now” initiative in the month of October by
reducing the cost of spays and neuters in their clinics.
